Dynamic groups allow workplace administrators to establish automatic rules that include a user in a dynamic group based on the user's profile data. However, workplace administrators cannot manually edit these groups to add or remove users individually.

Use dynamic groups
As a workplace administrator, site administrator, or creator, you can select dynamic groups when selecting:
- Broadcast audience
- Acknowledgement groups
- Feedback groups
- Calendar invites
- File and folder permissions
- Survey group permissions
- Default workplace feed subscriptions
The group selection modals in Igloo Flex often label the group as Dynamic to help you identify dynamically built groups.
Configure dynamic groups
Dynamic group users are sorted into dynamic groups using rules that can be adjusted for each group. As a workplace administrator, you can build rules with three components during the group creation process:
- A profile field
- An operator
- Equals / Does not equal (Available for all fields)
- Greater than / Less than / Greater than or equal to / Less than or equal to (Available for Date and Number field types)
- A value to be matched on
For example, for a group of users who speak French, the rule would look similar to this:
You can also add Boolean operators (AND / OR) rules to craft a more refined query.
For example, for a group of users who speak French and Spanish, you can have two rules that look similar to this:
Supported field types include:
- Text
- Date
- Number
- Checkbox
- Dropdown
- Radio button
The following profile fields are not available to use for matching in dynamic groups:
- Google Chat
- Identity Provider ID
- Slack
- Teams
- Username
Adding no more than 5 rules to a single group's query is recommended. Once you have configured the rules for a group and saved the group, Igloo Flex will automatically run a matching query to add users. After the query runs, you can see the number of users added to the group on the group's detail page. You can adjust these rules at any time to change the group membership. Later, when users' profile data is updated, they will be removed or added to dynamic groups based on the rules configured for each dynamic group.
For more information, see Add or edit a group.
After creating a dynamic group, you can assign access permissions via a dynamic group's role for a site in the Site Manager. The dynamic group must be assigned a role for a site to allow the group's users to interact with the site. Subsites do not inherit permissions from other sites in the site hierarchy. When assigning group access permissions, keep in mind that:
- Root directory access: To access pages and content in the digital workplace, a user must be in a group with an assigned role for the root directory (i.e., top location in the site structure, which may be named Home) in the Site Manager.
For more information, see Assign or edit access permissions for a site or Remove access permissions for a site.
Troubleshoot dynamic group membership
While a workplace administrator cannot manually add users to a dynamic group, other features such as Bulk User Upload or SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) can interact with dynamic groups' membership. If a group's membership keeps changing unexpectedly, ensure that other features are not updating it.
