Restore to a previous version of content

As part of Content versioning, you can restore a previous version of an article or wiki to revert to that published version.

Considerations

  • Notifications: Restoring to a previous version of the content is considered a content edit and will trigger a notification
  • Archived versions: You cannot restore an archived content version. To unarchive the content version, see Unarchive a content version.
  • File attachments: File attachments are restored along with their associated content version. However, you cannot preview or compare file attachments on different content versions. To see the file attachments, you must restore to a previous version first.

Who can do this?

  • Workplace administrators
  • Site administrators
  • Creators

Compare versions of content

You can compare versions of content before restoring to ensure the version has the changes you want to see.

  1. Navigate to the article or wiki feed, and open the article or wiki. Or, use the Top Bar's search box to search for the article or wiki.
  2. In the article or wiki, select Menu and then Version History.
  3. Select the checkboxes next to the two versions to compare them and select Compare Versions. You will be able to see the different versions and their associated text changes, which are highlighted as:
    • Green color highlighted + Underlined text: New text, including translations added in a different version.
    • Strikethrough text: Removed text
    • Orange color highlighted: Reformatted text
  4. (Optional) Select the Languages dropdown to change the displayed language version when the content is available in multiple languages.
  5. (Optional) To change the displayed versions, choose new versions from the Base Version and/or Compare With dropdowns.
  6. (Optional) Select Menu and then Restore to restore the currently selected base version. Alternatively, you can select Restore with edits to change the currently selected base version and then select Publish Now
