File attachments

File attachments are files directly added to supported content types instead of the File Manager. Adding a file attachment lets you tie it to the content's lifecycle, ensuring it doesn't outlive the content.

Use file attachments

While many file attachments can be previewed and downloaded, some cannot and will only offer a download option. For a list of file types that can be previewed, see the File preview section in File.

Add file attachments

As a workplace administrator, site administrator, or creator, you can add file attachments to the following content types: 

When a file attachment is added to the content, the attachment will respect the access permissions applied to the content. Additionally, keep in mind that: 

  • Maximum file attachments: Content can have a maximum of 20 file attachments. 
  • File size: Each file attachment must be smaller than 2 GB.
  • Indexing: File attachments are indexed for search as files. See the Indexing section in Search.
  • Content versioning: File attachments are supported for content versioning
  • Video file preview: Videos uploaded as a file attachment before November 21, 2025, will not be previewable.

Delete file attachments
